William Hancock, 20, a farrier from Kensington, was tried and convicted for highway robbery at St Mary Abbots and sentenced to death on 5 April 1832. Hancock’s sentence was commuted to life transportation. He left from Plymouth on the York on 1 September 1832 and arrived in Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) on 29 December.
