1827: George Robotham
George Robotham, 17, was tried at Warwick Assizes in 1827 for the burglary of a cottage. He was sentenced to transportation for life. Robotham sailed for Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) on the Asia on 25 July 1827. He had received a ticket of leave by 1837 when he married Anne Harris, also a convict, in Launceston. The couple had six children. Robotham received a conditional pardon in 1840 and an absolute pardon in 1843. He died in 1881 aged 72.
