John Haddon, 25, was tried and convicted at the Leicester Borough Quarter Sessions for obtaining goods under false pretences. He had pretended to be John Haddon, publican, also of Leicester, by producing a forged request for two gallons of brandy from the local wine vaults. He was sentenced to 14 years’ transportation.

Haddon sailed for New South Wales (together with William Brain) on the Barossa, arriving on 8 December 1839. Following a colonial charge of larceny in 1850, his ticket of leave was restored in 1851 for the district of Maitland.
