Token (on a coin still bearing the words BRITTANIA and the date 1797) engraved with an image of a tree with two birds, beaks touching, and a banner above them bearing the word:

LOVE

This image is is very similar to an 18th Century mourning piece of mine. The anchor symbol in the 18th C was not merely an image used by sailors, but carried a far more powerful meaning of hope and steadfastness, and often a secret symbol of the cross. The sheer size of this anchor may suggest holding hope even in the darkest of circumstances. A very poignant and powerful token!

I cannot help but wonder if this Token was not given by a Sailor and not Convict ,?
Maybe not strictly a Convict Love Token ???
